The community's name was changed to Crown Point, the highest point in Lake County. On October 31, 1834, Solon Robinson and his family became the first settlers of an area that would later become Crown Point. Crown Point Deputy Secretary Donna Benson said she has lived at Crown Point all her life and has no plans to ever leave. A modern high school with a large, open surrounding area has provided Crown Point with the best academic possibilities, and a sports complex with a street called “Bulldog Drive” has helped instill Bulldog pride in the community.
After checking out the local shops in the square, there's not much of a way to see some of Crown Point's other most famous sites. On October 31, 1834, Solon Robinson and his family became the first settlers to claim the area that would eventually become Crown Point. The Crown Point City Council has seven members, of which five are elected from neighborhoods and two are elected generally. The Crown Point Community School Corporation serves Crown Point residents who live in Center Township.
The Erie-Lackawanna Trail, which runs from Crown Point to Hammond, is a great trail for walking, running or biking. Matt Metros, a member of the Crown Point Street Department, was born and raised in Crown Point and has a unique perspective on the city. It later became known as Marriage Mill, since Crown Point did not require a waiting period for marriage licenses. Furnished by the LaFrance Corporation, it raised Crown Point's firefighting equipment to the level of any city in the country of its size.
Hartupee as fire warden for the City of Crown Point in November, the first official step was taken to promote better protection of life and property. Other Crown Point sports teams have also been successful lately, including the men's soccer team, which has won the state championship in two of the last three seasons, most recently under coach Mike Bazin. Because Crown Point did not have a waiting period for marriage licenses, the city became a popular place to get married and became known as Marriage Mill. Crown Point is known as the “center of Lake County” because of its centralized location and its distinction as the county seat of an area that has some municipalities with larger populations.
Believed to be Indiana's first major auto race, the Cobe Cup remains an annual event for Crown Point, Indiana.
